Barbershops and male-focused salons are one of the fastest growing trends today, and that means skilled barbers are in HIGH demand! Our rigorous program gives you the complete skill set needed for success in this fast-growing field. From hands-on technical training to developing your creativity and artist’ eye, you will be set up for success at Brown. We have a multifaceted curriculum that focus on theory and skill mastery, which ensures students are ready to be pass state examinations upon completion. At Brown Beauty Barber School, education is about much more than getting your license—it’s about “Creating Your Career in Less Than a Year”!
Our 3-Day Barber 1000 hour program takes approximately 11 months to complete, including holiday breaks.
Our curriculum starts with Life Skills and the importance of developing you into a career professional, while exploring science, safety and sanitation in the Beauty Industry. Next, students dive into the abundant curriculum, learning how to:
- Prepare for a client & perform proper consultations
- Identify products and tools required for each service
- Manipulate natural hair including braiding, waving, twisting, retwisting,rolling & rodding
- Perform various hot tool techniques such as round-brushing, flat ironing and curling
- Perform long and short haircuts using shears, razors and clippers
- Fade & blend haircuts using multiple techniques
- Use and formulate hair color
- Add and reduce texture using chemicals
- Perform an essential facial & male grooming
- Start a business & More!
When you graduate from Brown Beauty Barber school, you can expect to be fully prepared for any of the following careers:

- Submit a 500 word Entrance Essay with Application
- Make Payment Arrangements
- Complete FAFSA Application if applicable
- Request Certificates of Eligibility if applicable (Veteran Students)
- Submit Official Transcript
- Submit Valid Driver’s License
- Submit Social Security Card
- Pay $150 Registration Fee
- Pay $500 Minimum Kit Down Payment
Licensure Requirements:
Complete 1000 hours within 2 years of enrolling in school
Pass Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering Written Examination, Passing Score=70/100
Pass Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering Practical Examination, Passing Score=70/100

State Exam fees are paid by the student and approximately $195. Fees are subject to change at state’s discretion.
